Fall Meeting - October 23, 2010

Minutes:

The Chairman of the Council, Major Fred Lash, USMC (Ret), representing the United States Marine Corps Combat Correspondents Association, called the meeting to order at 0830 and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. He then introduced the Commandant’s representative, Brigadier General David H. Berger, Director of Operations, Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps.

BGen Berger noted that on 22 Oct., one day prior to our meeting, the CMC Passage of Command had occurred at Marine Barracks Washington, D.C., with General James Conway passing the reins to General James Amos. BGen Berger provided greetings from our new Commandant and encouragement to continue supporting the Corps. BGen Berger then briefed currents operations. His briefing slides are attached.

BGen Berger was followed by two briefers representing Colonel Bryan Salas, Director, Marine Corps Public Affairs: Mrs. Jessica O’Haver briefed on the responsibilities and policies of her office on Trademarks Licensing and LtCol Pete Conlan updated the Council members on the 2011 Marine Week to be held in St. Louis during late June 2011. Their briefing slides are attached.

Marine Reserve Captain Brian Iglacias showed a short trailer from his documentary “Chosin” and then discussed the making of the documentary during this 60th anniversary of the Korean War. (http://www.frozenchosin.com/) He was followed by Col Warren Wiedhahn, USMC (Ret) who briefed attendees on the Republic of Korea sponsored 2011 Revisit Korea Program. (http://www.korea.net/detail.do?guid=45526). Closing out the scheduled agenda, LtGen Ron Christmas updated all attendees on the current status of the National Museum of the Marine Corps, particularly the new exhibits, ongoing construction and outreach programs.

Under new business, the Chairman called attention to the need to elect the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary and two board members. The following Marines were elected:
Chairman: LtCol John Hales, USMC (Ret), representing the Marine Corps University Foundation
Vice Chairman: Mike Blum, representing the Marine Corps League
Secretary: Maj Fred Lash USMC (Ret), representing the Marine Corps Combat Correspondents Association
New board member: LtCol Ray Stewart, Marine Corps Vietnam Tankers Historical Foundation
New Board member: Greg Wappel, Marine Corps Engineer Association

The new chairman announced that we would look to April as the next scheduled meeting, and adjourned the meeting at 1215.
